The Senior Special Adviser (SSA) on Child Abuse to the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Muhammed Oziohu Jemilat, has strongly condemned a recent case of child abuse that has been trending on social media, allegedly involving popular Kogi musical artiste, Sharon Sonia. The artiste is accused of dehumanizing a child entrusted to her care. Describing the act as either “wickedness or recklessness,” Jemilat vowed that justice will be served and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of every child in the state.
In a statement released from her office, Jemilat expressed deep concern over the disturbing nature of the abuse, calling it “inhumane” and unworthy of any modern society. She stressed that in today’s world, people should be more informed and morally guided, urging everyone to take a stand against child abuse.
“In as much as I love to mind my business, every Kogi child has become my business. Justice shall prevail, inshallah,” she stated.
Citing Edu and Edu (as referenced in Dada, 2013), Jemilat defined child abuse as the willful maltreatment of a child, and emphasized that such acts have no place in a civilized society.
She assured the public and concerned citizens that a thorough investigation would be launched into the case and affirmed that the law will take its full course to ensure accountability.
“I hereby assure the public and concerned Kogi indigenes that investigations will be made, and the law will surely take its course,” she concluded.
The statement highlights the Kogi State Government’s renewed commitment to protecting children’s rights and ensuring that perpetrators of abuse are held responsible under the law.
